Filed under: Better Multimedia, Bookworms Den, Web Of Language — admin @ 6:10 pm

Alchemist by Paulo Coelho might be a good read, but today’s busy lives make some time difficult to do. Extended commutes to the office and day-to-day activities could be consuming huge amounts of your day everyday. You can use the hours spent commuting to catch up on those books you can’t get around to reading. With convenient download technology, it’s simple to relish Fisher Boy by Stephen Anable by Download Audio Book Online, or audiobooks recounted by Alan Bennett without even picking up a book. In today’s busy environmant multi-tasking has become an essential strategy. Audio-books like Pimsleur Armenian (Eastern) Compact by Dr. Paul Pimsleur by Download Audio Book Online make greater use of of the wasted moments everyday, it may be waiting time in a dentist’s surgery or driving the kids to soccer practise. Numerous audible books are available to download in mp3 format including Pimsleur Norwegian Compact by Dr. Paul Pimsleur, so if you have an iPod or another mp3 player and get ready to check out a biography or a great novel, such as audio-books by Francesca Simon without hauling a heavy book around.

Ardent readers will always seek out a way to read, even so the thousands of audio titles available are so handy. A narrator can enhance the enjoyment of many novels. Reading a title is not quite the same experience as listening to audio titles recounted by Kriswick Jenkinson, including subtleties established during a performance. The depth of your reading experience will be heightened by listening to an audio book like Arthur Schopenhauer by Dr. Mark Stone and frequently can mean a great deal more to you than the words on a page.

So think about audio-books next time you look at buying books, they are a marvelous way to fit all the studying you would like to achieve into a hectic schedule.

Review: Weinberg on Writing: The Fieldstone Method

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 5:50 pm

Author: Gerald M. Weinberg
ISBN: 093263365X

With the advent of self-publishing there is a current vogue for writing manuals
and writers’ aids. Most usually take the same approach with little variations.
However, Gerald M. Weinberg has come up with a creative approach with his
Weinberg on Writing: The Fieldstone Method. He offers alternatives to your
writing habits that he has experimented with and that have proven to be quite
beneficial to him in his career. Weinberg has been writing books and teaching
students how to write for forty years, and he is a leading author and
“consultant’s consultant” in the computer industry.

In Weinberg on Writing: The Fieldstone Method he draws an analogy to the
stone-by-stone method of building fieldstone structures. If you are not familiar
with fieldstones, these are generally used as for property lines and fences,
although they can also be used in constructing various other structures.

Building a fieldstone structure requires gathering the right stones in a
step-by-step process, as fieldstones vary in size, color, texture, shape and
density.
Similarly, writing a book requires the gathering of ideas or as Weinberg
succinctly reminds us, “snatches of writing, photos, diagrams, quotations,
pictures, and references that you find interesting.” Weinberg’s fieldstone
method also uses the “stones of time,” wherein chunks of writing time are set
aside, varying in quality and duration, in order to effectively write. In this
way you can avoid writer’s block and you can realize your writing projects with
greater ease.

Weinberg displays his deep writing knowledge throughout the book’s twenty
chapters that commences with the most important of Weinberg’s writing lesson
where he states that you can write anything you wish in any style, however, it
is imperative that you never attempt to write what you don’t care about. This
is different then the usual rule where we are told to write about what you know.

From here Weinberg explores how to banish writer’s block, gathering and
recycling ideas, words, phrases that you can call up for future use in any
fiction or non-fiction you may write. We are also provided with several
exercises in order to reinforce the many new principles that Weinberg exposes to
us.

There is a chapter dealing with the many tools available to assist us in our
gathering as the Internet, computers, notecards, pads, highlighters and sticky
notes, and other technological aids that will make our writing life simpler and
more rewarding.

Other sections illustrate how to discard unwanted material in the same manner
that we discard stones that don’t fit or suit our structure, how to trigger our
memory, organizing our work, shaping ideas and words that fit, knowing when to
stop, and what happens after we are finished.

Weinberg has written a clever writing manual. On one level it is highly readable
and on another it is packed with excellent insights into how to effectively
perfect the writing process with less pain and much more enjoyment.

“Is Your House Making You Overweight, Sick or Tired?” Author Margaret Shontz: Book Review

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 4:38 am

Margaret Rouse Shontz starts her first chapter with a caption
“whatever touches the body is absorbed by it through the skin,
nose, mouth, ears, or eyes.” One may not realize this until some
thought is put into it. The medical and drug industries provide
medications with patches or cream for absorption through the skin.
Yet, most of us don’t even think that touching a table top, that has
recently been “waxed” with toxic chemicals, could affect our body
system.

Shontz references her own experiences in her quest to reduce
illness in her body. Being very aware of the changes within her
body during certain situations, Shontz realized that the major causes
of her health challenges were due to improper electrical currents.
In the beginning of her book Shontz explains various electrical
currents and frequencies to make the reader aware that any slight
aversion coupled with chemicals, foods, or some things will affect
the human body.

Shontz suggests that the reader give their house a “house symptom
check-up.” Some of the illnesses that the house may have are:
green on the brass front door handle, dull knife blades, fruit rots
rapidly, green moss on shingles, or paint is peeling. In turn, Shontz
gives suggestions on remedies or elimination of the cause. In one of
her chapters she calls “Bathroomitis” she explains that “in many
cities, the grounding of the electrical service to the water pipe is
City Code…however, [some cities] let the ground be to a grounding
rod instead of to the incoming water pipe.” Shontz believes that
water pipe grounding is interrupted by magnetism and becomes a
possible household problem. She further states that once the
“improper electrical problems are solved, the house water becomes
softer.”

Although Shontz has a disclaimer on every page, she has done
much research to back her findings. She cites various books as well
as information that she found on the web. In the back of the book
Shontz includes a bibliography for the reader.

It is obvious that Shontz has done much research and believes that a
“sick” household, as well as improper electricity, may cause body
illnesses, including weight gain. Personally, I found the information
overwhelming on the first read. My recommendation would be to
use Shontz’s book as a reference and check your household one
item at a time. It is a process that could be trial and error until all
areas have been checked. Shontz makes it easier by including an
index. I commend Shontz for stepping out of the realm of
traditional beliefs surrounding illness and presenting alternative
information.

Insiders Secrets to Marketing Your Business On the Internet by Corey Rudl - Reviewed

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 3:58 pm

I came to understand that “Insider Secrets” was a labor of love developed by Corey Rudl and it didn’t happen easily for him. Hours of learning and research went into gaining his knowledge and compiling this marketing system, in a manner that benefited me personally.

This review is meant to be a useful, educational and an instructive resource for anyone interested in starting their own internet business.

Read it - and let me know what you think.

In June 2005, tragedy struck when Derek Gehl lost his good friend, colleague, and mentor, Corey Rudl, to the sport Corey was most passionate about — car racing. Corey’s passing stunned the entire internet marketing community. But one thing became very clear, very quickly: everyone was adamant that Corey’s dream must continue, no matter what.

And so, while Derek had always been content to work “behind the scenes,” he suddenly found himself thrust into a very public role. With the blessing of Corey’s family, and the support of all of Corey’s customers, Derek began running the company. Corey might be gone but his system is still very viable, and I would suggest you take a serious look at it.

Frankly when I finished studying Corey’s internet marketing system, “The Insider Secrets To Marketing Your Business On The Internet”, I was overwhelmed by the huge amount of information he managed to pack into this tutorial. My package included two hefty binders with over 1,300 pages, 4 guidebooks and 3 resource CDs. But I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised; after all, when the box containing these materials showed up at my door, it weighed in at over 10 pounds!

That’s 10 pounds of the most comprehensive internet marketing strategies, test results, case studies, tools, and ideas for generating income online that I have ever read. In fact, the only negative here is the time I needed to study all the information packed into “Insider Secrets”.

If you’re unsure who Corey Rudl was, you should know that he was a recognized expert in online marketing for the last 10 years. Not only did his “Insider Secrets” generate millions for him in online sales, his sites still attract thousands of visitors a day.

His package includes step-by-step advice for starting your own internet business. It covers how to build a website for under $100.00 and where to find those hot niche products that everyone talks about. It showed me many free and cheap online tools, resources and software that I found invaluable.

Of course, getting visitors to your website is always the first priority and Corey’s system showed me how to get new qualified visitors for free. He went into detail on how to get high rankings in the search engines, even Google. He also shared his secrets on writing sales copy that helped increase my sales substantially.

What’s really great about Corey’s “Insider Secrets” is that it can show anyone how to build a profitable internet business even if you’re completely technically challenged like me.

And if you already have an internet business as I do, this excellent information will take you to the next level. The advanced sections of his system show you how Corey increased his profits dramatically.

It will take time to go through this package and really get a total grasp of all his techniques and strategies. After all, it contains two binders of lessons plus the three CD’s and the four guidebooks. You may be a little confused at first but reread it again because it will all make sense.

This package is not a quick fix as I said. It will take time and patience, but it was worthwhile for me.

I feel completely comfortable giving the “Insider Secrets” system a 9 out of a possible 10! It is 1,300+ pages of step-by-step lessons containing the exact strategies Corey personally used to build a highly successful internet business. If you follow this plan like I did, you too will build a business on the internet, in a reasonable period of time.

A Review of FLYING FINGERS: Writing Tips and Advice From a Child Writer

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 4:29 am

As a children’s writing instructor myself, it’s not every day that I get
writing tips from an eight-year old, especially GOOD writing tips. But I
just finished reading FLYING FINGERS: MASTER THE TOOLS OF
LEARNING THROUGH THE JOY OF WRITING, which includes tips,
stories, and writing activities from its author, Adora Svitak. Adora is an
eight-year old girl from Redmond, Washington, who was just seven
when she wrote Flying Fingers, which also includes commentary and
coaching advice from her mother, Joyce Svitak.

After reading this book I realized that many of my adult writing students
don’t write as well as Adora. But then, most of these adults don’t write as
MUCH as Adora does. In FLYING FINGERS she explains that she wrote
more than 250,000 words (over 300 stories, essays, and poems) in a
single year and she continues to write thousands of words of fiction,
nonfiction, and poetry every week. Plus, she reads all the time. By her
own estimate she’s already devoured more than 1600 books.

Typing is another skill that Adora mastered early. In fact, she started
writing at age four, when her mother bought her a laptop and she used it
to make up stories. Now she types about sixty words per minute.

With so many early accomplishments, it’s no wonder Adora has been a
guest on Good Morning America and Diane Sawyer calls her “a tiny
literary giant.” But although Adora’s skills are truly amazing, she didn’t
write FLYING FINGERS to brag about herself. She wrote it because she
is passionate about inspiring other children to become just as
accomplished and excited about learning as she is. And her mother
says,”With support, encouragement from parents and educators, and the
proper use of technology, all children have the potential to excel and
enjoy writing and learning as much as Adora does.”

After reading FLYING FINGERS, I think she might be right about that - so
I hope parents, educators, and children everywhere will get a copy of
this book. Then just maybe we can find out.

Adora’s book is available online at www.amazon.com and at bookstores
across the country. Adora also has a website at www.adorasvitak with
photos, audio, and other interesting information about her writing and
her passion for learning.

Tattered Flesh, Resilient Spirit. Craig Collision M.D.

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 6:28 am

Craig’s life was going along just like it should; he was finishing his Pediatric internship at the hospital, his wife was expecting their third child, and the house was for sale as they looked forward to their move back to Pennsylvania from Cleveland. But their dream of a bright future would change to one of a nightmare. Craig undergoes a minor surgery for a benign lump under his left shoulder blade; he is confident his recovery will be rapid and his return to work timely, but Craig would develop complications that would turn out to be flesh eating bacteria disease. In what would turn into twenty hours of surgery the doctors raced to save Craig’s life and as much of his body as they could from the deadly bacteria. His post surgery condition was so severe that the only other hospital that would be able to properly care for his many open wounds would be the Burn Intensive Care Unit of the MetroHealth Medical Centre in Cleveland, Ohio. Craig’s condition would require equipment and treatments such as the spray table for cleaning his wounds and skin grafting over the span of many months. “This is the locale where the newest and most experimental therapies are tried and used in a last effort to thwart death.”

Tattered Flesh is the story of Craig’s fight for life, his strides and setbacks. It is a collaboration of his own memories, as well as journal entries made from his wife, friends, and hospital staff, into a journal that was kept by his bedside. “The entries express the raw emotions of life: love, fear, death, despair, faith, and hope as they happened, day-by-day.” Craig added bible verses to the book because he says these are the verses that were used to strengthen and guide them through their terrible experience. Though Michelle, his wife, witnessed her prayers being answered in her husband’s survival, Craig however, had a hard time accepting the reality of his situation. He does not consider himself a “miracle”, his acceptance of his reality has been difficult and he is not sure of the reason why this had to happen to him, but by sharing his story he hopes to encourage others in similar circumstances, and that his pain will benefit others.

Craig describes every phase of his admission process, from Emergency to the I.C.U., through the Burn Unit to the Step-down unit, Rehabilitation, final reconstructive surgery, and resurfacing back into normal society. He also includes a Glossary containing several sections on types of physicians, surgery, and medical terms. In addition to the Glossary there is also an Appendix that lists some common pain medications; the emergency room procedures and policies; hospital day; rehabilitation; and defines the various Units of the hospital such as the I.C.U. and the B.I.C.U. (Burn Intensive Care Unit).

What sets this book apart from many others may be the way it has impacted the life of the author. Craig Collision M.D. faced death and agonizing pain; it changed his outlook on his profession and how he relates to his patients and those who have been disfigured by disease. His situation may be more unique in that Craig is a physician who found himself in the position of the patient. His battle was long and frustrating as he struggled to regain his independence; from being able to breathe on his own to learning to walk again. Miracles happen around us every day and Tattered Flesh, Resilient Spirit is about one those miracles.

A Crack in the Teacup - Book Review

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 12:29 pm

The Crack in the Teacup, by C.M. Albrecht, is a mystery
fiction novel with a slight seasoning of romance and
suspense to spice things up. The story line is centered in a
small Californian town where an 11-year-old boy, Jerry
Beakey, goes missing on his way to a music lesson. Author
C.M. Albrecht skillfully walks the reader through every aspect
of the case and what happens in police departments,
support centers and within the family of the missing person.

There are two main characters in The Crack in the Teacup.
Detective Steve Music and his co-workers butt-heads with
the FBI while working on the case. Lovely, and sympathetic,
Shelly Lambert guards an awful secret and harbors a guilt
that drives her to volunteer at the Missing and Exploited
Children Coalition whenever she could get away from her
job as a Notary.

Whenever Detective Music and Shelly meet during the
investigation, something deeper between them happens.
Neither of them seems to know what to do about it. Steve
discovers Shelly’s secret when he looks into her past and
creates a huge rift between them that could destroy their
romance.

A classic who-dun-it written in the Agatha Christi style with a
very unusual motive for child kidnapping. I suspected nearly
everyone involved at some point in the book and I liked that
the characters represented true society, with people of
different races, ideals and backgrounds. The Crack in the
Teacup has very little violence, but a lot of mystery and a
happy ending.

ISBN#: 1-59466-037-9
Author: C. M. Albrecht
Publisher: Port Town Publishing

Book Reviewer: Lillian Brummet - Co-author of the book
Trash Talk, a guide for anyone concerned about his or her

Zoobooks Magazine for Your Animal Lover

Filed under: Bookworms Den — admin @ 11:42 pm

What kind of gift can you get my kids? I know my children just love animals. They enjoy trips to the zoo, watching nature shows on television, and learning about the behaviors of different animals and types of animals. So, as a gift, I found that a subscription to Zoobooks Magazine is affordable, fun, and exciting for my animal loving children. There are a number of reasons as well to get your kids involved in Zoobooks Magazine.

First off, Zoobooks Magazine is actually written with the improvement of childrens’ reading skills in mind. They are use visual words, pictures, and activities that involve interaction to encourage reading and learning potential. Children who read Zoobooks Magazine will expand their vocabularies and reading habits because it is something they enjoy reading.

Another great thing about Zoobooks Magazine is that they offer a great resource for your children as they work on homework assignments relating to animals. Why make homework a chore when your kids can have a plethora of animal information in their own Zoobooks Magazine subscription right at their fingertips. They are loaded with findings and illustrations from experts in the field of wildlife.

Not only do children love animals, but with Zoobooks Magazine they are introduced to the knowledge in a fun and exciting way. They offer answers to fantastic questions and silly ideas that children don’t normally think of. Like why bees do their own dances and why stripes keep tigers from going hungry. A subscription to Zoobooks Magazine will help your children to learn about what they already love, plus they will learn to ask better questions and think on their own.

In addition to all of the educational value, Zoobooks Magazine is very affordable. For 12 issues, one full year, you play less that $2.00 an issue. For that small amount, your children get a gift that will enjoy all year, a resource for homework, and a reading aid as they develop skills. You will be able to feel your child’s excitement as he improves his reading skills in reading and vocabulary. They are also easy to hang on to and use for siblings and future children.

Another great use for Zoobooks Magazine is in the classroom. The use of words and pictures draws children to the text and gets them reading. In addition, they are learning science and expanding their vocabulary in the classroom. Each Zoobooks Magazine has a creative activities section in it to encourage lesson planning around them. Word puzzles, pages available for reproduction and classroom use, and games.

Whether it is for your own children or a classroom of students, they probably love animals. So think about the Zoobooks Magazine to take advantage of that love and help children learn.

A barrister bookcase is a traditional bookcase that is believed to have originated in Britain. Its distinguishing feature is a transparent field glass front. The Worlds Most Important Books

Filed under: Bookworms Den, Collectors Guide — admin @ 7:40 pm

These three books are the foundation of humanity. They are the sacred books that probably are the most read through the world on a daily basis. They are all ancient and full of truth in their own way and are respected for what they are for and stand for, the faith or stone of the religions that they stand for.

As an open person and being someone that has traveled a pretty decent amount all over, I set my self out on a journey. To really look at all three books and find what they stand for. Well amazingly enough they stand for the same thing: ” Do unto others as they would do unto you.” It is about treating people in a good way, being honest and really living a life that is productive and full of goodness, these are the basic principle. It all revolves around good positive energy.

Which is the reason why it boggles my mind, the struggles of the world and the reason why millions and millions of people do not agree is based on these sacred books.

I can only hope that someday the leaders of all these three great religions sit down with each other and really immerse in what the principles of these books are, and implement them with their congregations, the world needs it.
